Abstract

This paper examines the relationships between children, play and place. We argue
that through observing children and using ideals of delight and play, it is possible to create
inspirational ideas for architecture and design. "Delight" subconsciously delivers architecture from
building and is the very element that is most difficult for designers to capture. It is when we can
respect and identify that the findings of children can hold meaning for us all that we can recognize
the use of play as a significant tool for creative discovery.
