THE CITY OF TORONTO FISCAL CRISIS: NEOLIBERAL URBANISM & THE RECONSOLIDATION OF CLASS POWER
Abstract
This paper examines the root causes of the Toronto fiscal crisis in the context of
federal and provincial offloading of services and responsibilities. Moreover, the author argues that
corresponding municipal governments have consolidated and expanded processes of urban
neoliberalism. To conclude, this paper raises some complicated dilemmas which the residents of
Toronto, like other urban centres, must sooner or later confront.
